Victoria, Texas, is the county seat of Victoria County. The city has its own unique attractions for visitors, like the Texas Zoo and the Museum of the Coastal Bend, along with outdoor recreation areas. But what makes it so special is the area located 30 miles inland from the Gulf Coast and right in the middle of San Antonio, Houston, Galveston, and Corpus Christi. The park also has a golf course, Riverside Golf Course, with 27 holes in three 18-hole combinations. You can fish on the river and you may also do so in Saxet Lake Park. Saxet, if you must know, is Texas spelled backwards. The massive Coleto Creek Park and Reservoir is a great place for camping, with 58 campsites, covered pavilions, fishing piers, playgrounds, and swimming areas.
The top rated hotel in Victoria is the Hampton Inn, located at 7006 N. Navarro. The Best Western Plus at 8106 NE Zac Lentz Pa is just as good. Other decent hotels include the Holiday Inn Express on 111 Huvar St., and the Fairfield Inn at 7502 N. Navarro. As far as the motels are concerned, your safest options are the Victoria Super 8 at 8001 Zac Lentz Pkwy or the Motel 6 at 3716 Houston Hwy.
The primary reason for a visit or stay in Victoria is always going to be the proximity to the Gulf Coast. Book your car rental in Victoria now, and chart out which destinations you want to visit and how to get there. If you want to head to the coast as the crow flies, the nearest place you can visit is Port Lavaca, which is just a half-hour away on US-87. From here, you can follow the coast and visit Corpus Christi and the Padre Island National Seashore, or head the other way towards Freeport and Galveston. If you want to take a day trip to a big city, San Antonio is a couple of hours away on US-87. You can also plan to visit Houston from Galveston, since the two cities are just an hour apart.
