Fresno is a city in Central California, located in the San Joaquin Valley. It is strategically located for visitors looking to explore the national parks and other cities in Central and North California. On the inland side, you can use Fresno as a base while you explore Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and the Sierra National Forest. You can explore the wineries, do some shopping and take a city tour. You can head out for big-city day trips to Sacramento, San Francisco and San Jose. With so many destinations spread over the vastness of Central and North California, you will need to get a car for rent in Fresno.
If you need any information, stop by the Fresno Clovis CVB office at 1550 E. Shaw Ave. You will need to get a car for hire in Fresno, and it would make the whole trip a lot more convenient if you booked the car right now. Assuming you have the wheels and all the maps and tourist brochures, let's get busy. If you are a shopaholic, head straight for Riverpark Shopping Center. Wine tastings are quite popular, and you will be given full winery tours by the Nonini Winery, Engelmann Cellars and Fresno State Winery, among others. You should visit the Forestiere Underground Gardens, Chaffee Zoo and the Fresno Art Museum.
A huge majority among all visitors in Fresno are those heading for the national parks. This means Yosemite National Park and the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. You should see the Fresno Flats Historic Village and Park at Oakhurst to get a glimpse of 19th century life in the Sierra Nevada foothills. There are quite a few options for skiers if you visit during the season, including Badger Pass and China Peak at Huntington Lake northeast of Fresno in the Sierra National Forest.
The best choice is a trip to the Northern California Pacific Coast. You can head out on CA-99 up until Madera and then exit to CA-152 all the way to Gilroy. From here, you get on US-101 until you hit San Jose. If you stopped over in Madera to poke around the wine trail and in Gilroy for a taste of garlic ice-cream, then you should reach San Jose in about half a day. If you speed right through, you can make the trip in less than 3 hours. You can either spend the rest of the day in San Jose, or drive an hour more on US-101 to San Francisco and the Pacific Coast. An alternative day-trip would be a nice three hour drive to the Golden State capital Sacramento, with a pick of towns to stop along the way, including Madera, Merced, Modesto, Stockton, Lodi and Elk Grove.
Agencies offering a car rental in Fresno for travelers are located in 4-5 distinct locations. Apart from downtown Fresno, Clovis and Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT), there is one bunch on N. Blackstone Ave which runs alongside the Yosemite Freeway. A few more can be found in the Highway City neighborhood near Sierra Sky Park. But all this is academic, because it would be well nigh impossible to find the best deal by going around to all these agencies. What you have to do is compare all the agencies online, select a deal you like and book your vehicle right now.
