Peterborough is famous for being a historic Cathedral city in Cambridgeshire on the banks of the River Nene, about 75 miles north of London. Visitors are whisked away into a trip back in time, from a Bronze Age archaeological site to a 12th century Cathedral and steam engine rides. If you want to see and experience all this, you will need to get a car for hire in Peterborough.
Begin your tour with a visit to the tourist information center on Bridge Street. Once you have a fair idea of what to see and where to go, you will need a set of wheels to get you around. Hopefully, you had the foresight to book a car for rent in Peterborough and you now have a vehicle to take you to the next point of interest, which are the Nene Valley Railway for a steam engine ride and then the Gordon Boswell Romany Museum. Visit the Peterborough Cathedral and the Flag Fen Bronze Age Archaeology Park. Other must-visit attractions include Railworld, the Peterborough Museum and Gallery and the Elton Hall Historic House. If you are into historic homes, do not miss the Burghley House, Prebendal Manor or Longthorpe Tower.
If you have had your fill of the Cathedrals and historic homes in Peterborough, you can poke around on the outskirts of the town to find even more interesting attractions. You will bump into the Sacrewell Farm & Country Center and the Wansford Pasture on the Great N Rd towards Stamford. If you go a bit further, you can visit all the attractions in Stamford, including Stamford Meadows. A little bit ahead of Elton Hall lies the Fotheringay Castle Site. You might also want to see the historic stone buildings in Market Deeping.
One popular short drive itinerary out of Peterborough is a trip to the Peak District National Park. You can make your way on the A606, via Stamford to Nottingham and on to the Peak District National Park in about 2 and half hours. If that is too long, then stop at Nottingham or take a detour to Sherwood Forest and get acquainted with the attractions in Robin Hood Country. If you want an even shorter trip, you can simply head for Leicester, which will take an hour on the A47, with a possible stop along the way at Uppingham.
There are at least nine big depots and perhaps even more agencies offering a car rental in Peterborough for visitors. You can find many of them on London Road, and some on Midland Rd near the train station. The easy way to sort through the lot and find the best deal is to use an online service. Find a good deal and book your choice of vehicle right now, so you will have a vehicle ready and waiting when you come here to visit Peterborough.
