The U.S. Virgin Islands form an unincorporated USA territory in the Caribbean. USVI and the British Virgin Islands together make up the Virgin Islands, an archipelago that is part of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles. The population of the USVI, clocking in at nearly 110,000, is divided into the three main islands of Saint Croix, Saint John, and Saint Thomas. The climate is perpetually warm and sunny which, coupled with the gorgeous beaches, rainforests and national parks, makes it a great Caribbean vacation destination. If you get a car for hire in U.S. Virgin Islands, you can explore each of the three islands and all their cities, beaches, and attractions at your leisure.
Saint Thomas is the first island you will see when you arrive at the capital city of Charlotte Amalie, whether by cruise ship at the harbor or by air at Cyril E. King Airport. The first thing to do is get a car for rent in U.S. Virgin Islands because you have a gazillion attractions and activities in the two principal urban areas, Charlotte Amalie and Red Hook. Throw in the beaches at Magen's Bay, Hull Bay, Brewer's Bay, Sapphire Beach, Coki Beach, and Secret Harbor as well. Then there are historic attractions such as the 99 Steps, 1680 Fort Christian, and the St. Thomas Synagogue.
Saint Croix is the largest and most historic island in the USVI. The two main towns are Christiansted and Frederiksted. You can fly in directly from some U.S. cities to the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport on Saint Croix or catch a ferry from Charlotte Amalie. Christiansted’s historic sites include 18th and 19th-century homes such as Alexander Hamilton's warehouse and Whim Great House, which is a restored plantation. The tropical rainforest can be explored from Frederiksted, and you can also visit the St. George Village Botanical Garden nearby. The Sandy Point Wildlife Refuge offers you a chance to see endangered leatherback turtles in their natural element.
Saint John is the smallest island in the USVI, but packs a powerful tourist punch. More than 60 percent of the island is part of the pristine and beautiful Virgin Islands National Park, untouched by modernity. The island offers a bucket load of gorgeous beaches. The north shore beaches are widely acknowledged to be the best, including Hawksnet Bay and Gibney Beach. The most convenient is probably Cruz Bay Beach, located downtown and right in front when you get off the ferry.
The good news is that you can book your car rental in U.S. Virgin Islands right now and not worry about what to do when you want to do some island hopping. Car barges are available for crossing over from Red Hook on Saint Thomas to Cruz Bay on Saint John. You can plan for a trip on wheels that takes you from the urban delights in Red Hook and Charlotte Amalie to all the bays and beaches on Saint Thomas and then on Saint John.
