Oludeniz (Ölüdeniz, Olu Deniz) is a popular beach resort on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, located just over 5 miles from Fethiye. Oludeniz Beach is widely regarded as one of the top five beaches in the world. The waters of the famed Blue Lagoon are always calm and crystal clear, and part of it is a national park inaccessible to yachts. The primary reason visitors come here is for a beach vacation and for paragliding. But you can still explore the Lycian Way and get a car for hire in Oludeniz for a scenic coastal drive to nearby tourist hotspots like Antalya, Marmaris, or Bodrum.
Oludeniz is justifiably the most famous beach in Turkey and perhaps the entire Mediterranean coast. But it is not the only beach here. Belcekız Beach is less than 15 minutes away and is a popular tourist hangout. Get a car for rent in Oludeniz and head out to explore beaches such as Kidrak, which is much more secluded and peaceful than Oludeniz. Gemiler Beach in front of St. Nicholas Island is less than half an hour away, and is the perfect spot for swimming, snorkeling, and seafood.
The choices range from budget backpacker accommodation to 5-star hotels and all-inclusive resorts. You can also consider getting a villa, apartment or cottage as a vacation rental. There is limited space in Oludeniz, so the newer properties are located further out in nearby Hisaronu and Ovacik. The popular options among international tourists include the Belcekiz Beach Hotel, Oludeniz Resort, and the Montana Pine Resort.
The Lycian Way is a 311 mile footpath along the coast that starts in Fethiye and goes all the way to Antalya. Nobody is asking you to walk 300 miles, but you can drive and explore bits and pieces of the path along the way. This may be a bit hard in some places, because the Lycian Way climbs up to Mt. Olympos on the way to Hısarçandır. You might have to bypass this section entirely and head straight for Antalya.
Going further north past Fethiye along the coast is far easier and more enjoyable for ordinary tourists. Book your car rental in Oludeniz and figure out an itinerary for a coastal drive to Marmaris or even Bodrum. Marmaris is just over 2 ½ hours away on the D400, and Bodrum is another 3 hours from Marmaris.
