Playa de las Americas is a planned seaside resort on Tenerife Island in the Canary Islands. The Canary Islands are located just off Africa's Atlantic Coast, but they are nominally an autonomous territory under Spain. Playa de las Americas was built in the 1960s near the town of Los Cristianos on the island's south coast. It has now turned into the biggest tourist destination on Tenerife, with a reputation as a party town with a sizzling nightlife. Book your car rental in Playa de las Americas right now and plan ahead for an exploration of the resort, Los Cristianos, and the rest of Tenerife.
The thing about the natural beaches on Tenerife is that they tend to be of black sand because of the island's volcanic past. The local authorities got around this problem by importing sand from the African coast, and now Playa de las Americas has beautiful beaches like Las Vistas and Los Cristianos. Get a car for hire in Playa de las Americas and head for El Camison Beach if you want to enjoy jet skiing and other water sports. La Troya at Veronica's Strip is the second largest beach on the island after Las Vistas. Two more beaches you might want to explore are Puerto Colon beach and Fanabe beach.
There are three main areas that are famed as nightlife hotspots, including Veronica's Strip, the Patch, and the Starco Center. The Patch is a huge multi-level complex that offers everything from family entertainment and shops to cabaret and live music bars and karaoke. Veronica's Strip and Starco are close by each other, so a wide range of bars and clubs are available for bar hopping across both of them.
Hotels in Playa de las Americas are mostly judged based on how close they are to the beach. Guests staying in top of the line accommodations like Europe Villa Cortes and Mare Nostrum Resort can simply walk across the street to be on the beach. Other suitable choices include the H10 Las Palmeras and Hotel La Siesta Tenerife.
There are a few different ways to explore Tenerife. You can get a car for rent in Playa de las Americas and head west towards other Adeje coast resorts, including Playa de Fanabe and Plaza del Duque, and then further west to the incredible cliffs of Los Gigantes. You can head up to the eastern tip of the island where you will find the capital city of Santa Cruz. If you want to go inland, the biggest attraction is Teide National Park, with a volcanic crater and the 12,200 ft tall peak of Mt. Teide. On the other side is the north coast resort of Puerto de la Cruz and the old town of La Orotava, a beautiful place for a getaway in the lush green Orotava Valley.
