General Santos City, or GSC, is a highly modernized urban centre. Geographically, General Santos City is situated at the southern end of the Philippines. It occupies a total land area of about 207 square miles and is one of the most densely populated cities in the country with well over half a million residents. The main economic driving forces here are the fishing and agricultural industries. Hire a car in General Santos City and have a closer view of this amazing city.
The fish industry here is ever thriving, its chief catch being tuna fish. This fish has contributed much to the success of GSC and has made the city become known as the ‘Tuna capital of the Philippines.’ This is due to the large catches that have put GSC at the second top position among the biggest fish producers in the Philippines. They produce the finest Sashini Tuna in the region. The fertile volcanic soil in the region together with a steady amount of rainfall distributed all year round has also contributed greatly to a vibrant agricultural industry. The booming commercial and trade activities in GSC has turned it into a very strategic business centre that attracts many shoppers from the entire region.
The main airport that serves this entire region is General Santos International Airport. It is the largest in capacity in the Mindanao region.
