The town of Rozenburg comes under the municipality of Rotterdam in the province of South Holland in The Netherlands. However, it is not really a part of anything. It is in fact an island that neatly straddles the city, the port, and the sea. Rozenburg Island has somehow made a place for itself among the maze of sand bars, canals, and rivers. The water barriers have kept the city of Rotterdam and its industries at bay. This is why visitors will find an oasis of greenery and peace just a few minutes from all the famous tourist attractions in Rotterdam. Get a car for hire in Rozenburg to see everything from De Hoop Windmill to the Beestenboel petting farm.
The Headland is the recreation zone on the island, where you can hike and bike and enjoy the view. The Educational Information Center (EIC) will tell you everything you need to know about the Port of Rotterdam. Get a car for rent in Rozenburg so that you can continue on to the Beestenboel petting farm. The farm is open from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm every day. The huge “De Hoop” aka “Hope” Windmill at the centre of the village is a must-visit attraction. It was a grain mill at one time, but is not in use anymore. Despite this, it still makes for an impressive tourist attraction.
Rozenburg is one of the seven South Holland Islands created by the Rhine-Meuse river delta. They are linked by road, so you do not have to get on and off boats if you go island hopping. Do not miss Voorne-Putten or Goeree-Overflakkee. If you can, also visit Dordrecht, Hoeksche Waard, and Tiengemeten.
Your main choice, and perhaps the only proper hotel on the island, is Hotel Rozenburg located at Emmastraat 26 in the centre of the village on a nice shopping street. The neighborhood has plenty of parking space. You get free Wi-Fi all over the hotel. Every room comes equipped with a work desk, tea and coffee makers, and LCD television. Room rates include breakfast and all services provided.
The aforementioned island hopping expedition was but a small preview of the pleasure of a coastal drive in the Netherlands. Book your car rental in Rozenburg and plan for a one-hour coastal drive to Amsterdam. Stop by at Leiden and Haarlem along the way. If you went island hopping as described above, you could easily hop a little more to Middleburg and Vlissingen just before you hit the border with France.
