St. Helier is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey. The parish is named after Helier, a 6th century ascetic hermit who was martyred. The parish church of St. Helier was constructed at the site of the martyrdom. This was on the edge to the sea before land reclamation and construction of the port began. The parish is the most populated among the 12 parishes, with a population of 33,522 in 2011.
St. Helier is very close to the airport, which is located in Saint Peter Parish. The parish is known for its administrative role as the Jersey capital. However, the government house is in aint Saviour . It also holds vast historical references and monuments. The Liberation Monument is a perfect example of the historical depictions.
