Yokohama is the capital of the Kanagawa Prefecture and the second largest city in Japan after Tokyo. It is located south of the capital along Tokyo Bay, in the Kanto region of Honshu Island. The attractions all tend towards grandiosity, from the world’s tallest mainland lighthouse to Japan’s tallest skyscraper, the world’s biggest clock and the country’s biggest Chinatown. Get a car for hire in Yokohama and see everything from the Marine Tower to the Landmark Tower and Cosmo Clock 21.
For one of the best tourist experiences in Japan, get a car for rent in Yokohama and head for the waterfront Kannai port area. If you move around quickly, you should be able to see everything from Yamashita Park to the Yokohama Marine Tower, which is the world’s tallest lighthouse on mainland soil. Other attractions nearby include the world’s biggest Chinatown, Yokohama Stadium, the doll museum, and the silk center.
With a city so huge, it is well nigh impossible to cover all the attractions with a single city tour. At best, you can choose to visit a few popular tourist hotspots which have multiple attractions. Apart from the Kannai/Chinatown area, other popular tourist locations include the futuristic Minato Mirai 21 where you will find the Landmark Tower, the tallest skyscraper in Japan. Across from Minato Mirai 21 is Cosmo Clock 21, a giant Ferris wheel which doubles as the world’s biggest clock. The Yokohama Station area has plenty of hotels and large shopping stores, while Shin-Yokohama offers the Yokohama Zoo, the Mozaic Mall Kohoku and the Nissan Stadium. This was just a sampling of the possible locations for city tours, and you can continue doing this for a very long time.
It would not really be fair to limit yourself to hotels in a specific area such as Yokohama Station, even though it is a good place to stay with lots of hotels. The choice has to be made based on your planned itinerary and preferences. But if you want to keep it simple and choose from amongst the top hotels in Yokohama, then your shortlist needs to include the Royal Park Hotel, the Richmond Hotel Yokohama, and the Pan Pacific Yokohama Bay Hotel Tokyu.
Tokyo is obviously at the top of the list if you arrived directly in Yokohama from outside Japan. You could plan for a drive to the tourist resort of Miura or the ever popular Mt. Fuji. However, the day tripping will be a lot better if you book your car rental in Yokohama right now and plan to go the other way towards Tokyo and other Tokyo Bay destinations such as Kawasaki and Disneyland Tokyo in Urayasu.
