Hersonissos is a popular tourist resort around 16 miles east of Heraklion in Crete, Greece. There is some confusion about its name, since it is also known as Chersónisos, Hersónisos, Limenas Hersonissou and Limenas Chersonisou. Call it what you will but there is no confusion whatsoever about why hundreds of thousands of young European tourists invade this town every summer. They come to party, and they party non-stop - all day and all night long. The nightclubs, discos, taverns and bars are packed to the rafters during the summer holidays and one doesn't have to be invited or part of a group to join the party. You will need to rent a car in Hersonissos if you intend to join the scene and go club-hopping or see the sights in and around the town.
Those who manage to take a break from the parties will find an amazingly beautiful destination awaiting exploration. If you get a car for hire in Hersonissos, you can head out to the old harbor port village of Ano Hersonissos, and explore beaches up and down the coast along with sandy coves with good spots for snorkeling and swimming. You can go shopping for anything from furs to jewelry and other designer accessories. One of the unique attractions here is the sight-seeing train that runs through the main street and alongside the sea. Other must-visit attractions include the Aquarium and the Lychnostatis Open Air Museum.
The Temple Bar club is the place to be if you want to enjoy live rock and snacks all night long. Right on the seafront is the huge and popular New York Club. If you want to dance the night away, the NRG or Energy Club is the best dance club. Amnesia is perfectly named, because every night is a completely new experience at this club. For a more relaxed and sedate evening of cocktails and slow music, go to the Saloon Café Bar. Aria provides electronic music with guest DJs from all over the world taking turns every other night.
Cruises take visitors around to nearby islands like Dia. You must take a coastal drive and see the beaches along the coast, such as Anissaras Beach and the one at Stalis. Visit to Gouves and Heraklion are considered mandatory as part of the whole club hopping scene.
There are five agencies providing a car rental in Hersonissos for visitors. The nearby towns have even more agencies that will also provide pickups and drop-offs in Hersonissos. The only way to find the best deal out of the lot is to compare the agencies online. Select a deal you like and book your vehicle right now, so that the vehicle will be ready and waiting when you arrive in Hersonissos.
