The medieval town of Memmingen lies in Swabia, Germany. On the town’s western flank flows the River Iller, signifying the Baden-Württemberg border, while the rest is surrounded by the district of Lower Allgäu. During the Roman occupation it is believed that a small military town, called ‘Cassiliacum’ was founded here. In medieval times the town was on the main trading route between Italy – Switzerland – Germany and therefore became an important trading center.

Ottobeuren is famous for its Baroque church which is a Benedictine monastery. Built in 1737 with stucco and frescoes facades it has a famous organ in the choir. Don’t miss to visit the Swabian Farmhouse Museum, the oldest open-air museum in Bavaria at Illerbeuern before having a rest and taking in the stunning views of the Swiss Alps in Lindau. You can then proudly say that you visited one of the Continent's secret offshore gems when you visit Lindau which is something special, placed in the Lake Constance area and the Austrian and Swiss border is very nearby.
