Brandenburg was at one time an Episcopal city and town that boasted of extensive trading connections. It forms from the states that were recreated following the reunification of Germany in 1990. It’s capital is Postdam. Brandenburg surrounds the city state and national capital of Berlin but it is not part and parcel of the same. There are a number of tourist attractions in Brandenburg. The Brandenburg Cathedral was constructed in the twelfth century. Brandenburg is also home to a number of popular destinations. The Ketsur Church refers to an early Gothic architecture type church that dates back to the fourteenth to eighteenth centuries. Among it features is an epitaph and fine wall paintings that date back to the early seventeenth centuries. The Marienburg in Brandenburgs new town is home to the Marienberg park. The old Germanic tribe of Semnones is said to have worshipped the goddess Freya as far back as the late eleventh and early twelfth centuries on the Slave sanctuary located on the Marienburg Hill. The Municipal Museum in the Freyhaus refers to an early eighteenth century Baroque building that features a collection of European graphic art dating back from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries, historical accounts of the town and a fine staircase hall. Brandenburg is also home to the Plaue Church which is a late Romanesque brick built church that features among other things a Renaissance pulpit and Gothic wall paintings that date back to the fifteenth century. Brandenburg is also home to a number of other popular tourist destinations including Rathenow, St Gotthardt's Church, St John's Church, St Nicholas's Church, St Peter's Chapel and the Town Walls of the Rathenower Torturm, the Plauer Torturm, the Mühltorturm, the Steintorturm, and the Wasserpromenade and Annenpromenade.
