Car hire Bergen information

Bergen is a centrally located town for visitors who want to explore the Celle District in Lower Saxony. It is perhaps this strategic location that has led to the town's importance through the centuries since it was first settled in around 1197 AD. But the attractions here range from way back to Stone Age dolmens to Bronze Age barrows, followed by historic Churches, war memorials and military bases. If you intend to take a trip back in time from the Stone Age through to WW II, you will have to get a car for hire in Bergen.

Rent a Car in Bergen for a Trip Back in Time

Start your tour of Bergen with a visit to the tourist information office at Deichend 3-7. Assuming you have got hold of a car for rent in Bergen, you can now start with the Stone Age. The first stop on the tour should be the Siddernhausen Dolmen which dates back to somewhere around 3000 to 2700 BC. Next stop is the Sieben Steinhäusern, which is made up of huge stone tombs in the Bergen-Hohne area where the British troops are stationed at a NATO military base. Now you can jump 1,500 years ahead to the Wohlde Bronze Age Barrows with 45 burial mounds from way back in 1200 to 1500 BC. Fast forward a few thousand years ahead to a 1728 clock tower and the 1826 St Lambertus Church in the town center, which is called Peace Square. Move forward a century and you come to three war memorials, also in Peace Square. Perhaps the most poignant of all the memorials here in Bergen is the former Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, which is now a memorial site with mass graves.
