Rijeka is a port city in Kvarner Bay, on the Adriatic Coast in Croatia. It is the third largest city in the country, and has plenty of beaches and heritage sites to keep tourists happy. You will find blue flag beaches such as Ploce and Kostanj. The city has stunning landmarks such as the 13th-century Trsat Castle. Our Lady of Trsat Sanctuary is one of the important pilgrimage sites in Croatia. Get a car for hire in Rijeka through our website so that you can go check out all the beaches at the eastern and western ends of the city. You will find the tourist information center at Korzo 14, on the Korzo promenade. Get a car for rent in Rijeka from us and continue the tour to the City Tower, Governor's Palace, and the Palace of Justice. You might also want to spend some time at the city market which has been here since 1866. Another important landmark is the torpedo-launching ramp, which is now a tourist attraction with a history as the world’s first torpedo-producing factory.
Apart from the historical landmarks, Rijeka also has a ton of museums if you want to really get to know the region’s past. You can visit the Rijeka City Museum, and the Maritime and Historical Museum at the Governor’s Palace. The Natural History Museum at Lorenzov prolaz 1 has an aquarium with fish and shark specimens, among other things. A very interesting stop on this tour is the Peek and Poke Museum of Informatics and Technology, which has a lot of very old computers.
The top two beaches are the aforementioned Ploce and Kostanj beaches. Towards the eastern side of the city, Pecine has eight beaches which are very close to the city centre. On the western side, you have the five beaches of Kantrida, and more on the way from Bivio to Preluk. The beach at Preluk itself is ideal for surfing. Dog owners can take their pets to the Kantrida beach adjacent the parking lot, or to the sandy Brajdica Beach in Pecine.
You can go inland towards Zagreb, or follow the coast past Zadar to Split and Ston, and then to Dubrovnik. But most visitors will probably prefer to explore the Istria Peninsula. Book your car rental in Rijeka from us right now and plan for a foray into the peninsula. Follow the coast to the peninsular tip at Pula, and then turn around and follow the other coast past Rovinj and Poreč to Umag.
