The Central African Republic is a country in Central Africa. Cameron stands between CAR and the Atlantic coast. The country is just as landlocked on all its other borders by Congo, the Congo (Democr. Republic), South Sudan, Sudan, and Chad. CAR is subject to dry tropical heat. Around 735,000 of the country’s 4.42 million population live in the capital city of Bangui. Get a car for hire in Central African Republic so that you can move around in Bangui, and plan for visits to the Dzanga Sangha and Manovo-Gounda St Floris national parks. A vehicle will come in handy if you want to start your forays into the national parks from Berberati and Ndele.
Bangui is the capital of the country, and most visitors will land at Bangui M'Poko International Airport (BGF). It is not a huge tourist destination, but it has a few unique attractions. Get a car for rent in Central African Republic and head for Bokassa Palace and the grandiose arch dedicated to Bokassa. Other attractions worth a visit include Boganda Museum and the Cathédrale Notre-Dame. The city is located on the banks of the Oubangui River, and has a river port from where ships can navigate downstream. The Rock Club along the river banks is a nice clubhouse with a swimming pool, lounge, snack bar, tennis courts, and other recreational facilities.
Berberati is the third largest city in CAR, and the main gateway into Dzanga Sangha National Park. You can drive from the capital past Mbaiki and Boda directly to Dzanga Sangha, or fly in to Berberati Airport and then take a shorter drive to Dzanga Sangha. This park is one of the most popular national parks not just in CAR, but in the entire Central African region. This is a protected area in the Congo basin, filled with lush green rainforests and all manner of wildlife. You can see everything from gorillas to forest elephants and buffalos, and a kaleidoscopic array of colorful bird species.
Apart from Dzanga Sangha, most of the other major national parks are at other end of the country, near Ndele (N'Délé) and Ouadda close to the border with Chad. Ndele is a market town and the perfect base from which to explore the vastness and beauty of the Bamingui-Bangoran and Manovo-Gounda-Saint Floris national parks. The latter is a UNESCO listed world heritage site with endless savannahs where elephants, lions, black rhinos, leopards, wild dogs, and cheetah roam free. The floodplains to the north are filled with water fowl and some 320 bird species. Hunting is allowed in the game reserves adjoining the park.
