Car hire Catania information

Catania is a city on the east coast of Sicily and at the foot of Europe’s largest and most active volcano. Etna has also several times left its mark on the picture of the city with 300,000 inhabitants. The city has fallen victim many times to earthquakes and eruptions, the last one in 1693. Finally, volcanic rock was used to rebuild the city, which proves that both fate and the inhabitants of the city have their own sense of humour. The Baroque architectural style used after the last time Catania was destroyed yielded the old town the status of a World Heritage Site in 2002. Economically, agriculture was earlier predominant. Today it is primarily services, industry and tourism that make Catania one of the major economic regions of Sicily. Many visitors from countries such as Croatia , Ireland and of course Italy visit the city on the Mediterranean each year. And it is worth their while. The Baroque old town alone is the home to many beautiful and interesting historical structures and monuments. Especially highlighted here are the cathedral, the nearby Fontana dell'Elefante (the landmark of the city) and the ancient Amphitheatre. All places of interest can be easily reached by a hired car due to the good system of roads. Thanks to the connection to Sicily’s motorway network there’s nothing in the way of a visit to Palermo on the north of the island by hired car.
