The Paris Orly Airport was the main airport in Paris before the construction of the Charles de Gaulle Airport. It is located partially in Orly and in Villeneuve-le-Roi, about 13km away from the city centre. While most of the international traffic has been moved away from Orly, it remains the busiest French airport for domestic traffic and the second busiest airport in France.
One can get to Paris and nearby communes easily by opting for the car hire Paris airport service which is hassle-free and affordable.
History of the Paris Orly Airport
It was first known as the Villeneuve-Orly Airport and its main purpose was to function as a secondary airport to Le Bourget Airport. It was used by the Germans in the Battle of France as a combat airfield. After the Battle of Normandy and the retreat of the Germans, the Americans were the primary operators of the airport until 1947 when it was handed back to the French government.
In 1948, Orly Airport was once again a commercial airport.

If you are travelling with kids then there is plenty to do! With a trusty hire car Paris airport, visit the Cite des enfants, a museum for children that offers plenty of fun, interactive and educational activities and exhibits. The Parc Zoologique is also unique as it has a 236 foot artificial mountain right in the centre. You can go all the way up to enjoy the view and watch some mountain goats. If the mountain is not attractive enough, there is enough wildlife in the zoo to keep your children interested and excited.
It is not all about the kids though, as you and your wife might want to do some shopping and sample some French cuisine. Explore the Quartier Saint-German-des-Pres, where you can find vintage clothing from 20th century dresses to 70s sunglasses. If you are looking for something niche and different then take the northern route to the Boulevard where you can also find a nice café to sit in.
If you are in the mood for something busier, then Paris is home to three main flea-markets. They are located on the outskirts of the city but that is why you rent a car in Paris airport – for the convenience of going anywhere you like. The most famous among the flea-markets is of course the Marche aux Puces de St-Ouen.
