Facts about car hire in Cape Town

Cape Town

With a population of approximately 2.4 million people Cape Town is the third-largest city in South Africa after Johannesburg and Durban. It was the first city founded during colonial times and has since 2004 been the single seat of parliament. Cape Town is located, as the name already implies, 50 kilometres away from the Cape of Good Hope in south-eastern South Africa. The unmistakable landmark of the city is Table Mountain. It is one of the most popular attractions among the many tourists as the Victorian harbour. The city centre which can easily be reached by hired car is ready to provide a lot of other interesting options for visitors. There is a great variety of historical buildings and museums here. Also, the oldest preserved building in South Africa is located here: the Castle of Good Hope. Many visitors from countries such as Germany, the USA and New Zealand also travel to Cape Town due to their interest in South Africa’s recent past. The former prison of Robben Island is located here. It was used by the Apartheid as a penal camp for political prisoners including Nelson Mandela, the first post-apartheid president of the country. The island is a World Heritage Site today and is certainly worth visiting.
