Car hire Thessaloniki information
Apart from Athens, the port city on the
Mediterranean is the second-largest city in
Greece and has been a major trading hub for thousands of years. After arriving by air, land or sea you can reach all of the sensational places with a hired car, making Thessalonica a European Capital of Culture in 1997. Its landmark, the Lefkós Pýrgos (white tower), and the examples of architecture from Roman times are only a few of the places of interest in the city. All of this gave the city a place on the list of World Heritage Sites in 1988. Besides tourism, Thessalonica is also known for the modern universities and is popular as a site for trade fairs. Tourists and in-transit travellers come to Thessalonica from international countries such as
South Africa, the Ukraine and
New Zealand. Thanks to the well developed motorway from here you can travel onward in any direction of the compass. In 2004 the city participated in the Olympic Games taking place in Athens.
