The municipality of Weeze is located in the western part of North Rhine-Westphalia, almost within view of the border to the
Netherlands. Weeze is primarily known throughout the area for its international airport. Approximately half a million departures and arrivals are registered here each year. With a hired car it’s then off to the nearby Ruhr Area and to cities such as
Duisburg,
Düsseldorf or Dortmund. But there are a few reasons for spending a few days in Weeze. The three castle complexes are certainly among the city’s places of interest. The Kalbeck and Wissen castles have been well-preserved, yet Hertefeld has only been partially rebuilt following a fire. The old market is also well worth visiting.
