Car hire Kiel information
Kiel is the capital city of the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein in Northern
Germany. With 230,000 inhabitants Kiel is one of the major cities. Like Hamburg located approximately 100 kilometres to the south, the port city of Kiel was a member of the Hanseatic League, if only for about 30 years. Today the city is set up for services and production, but the harbour still plays an important role. Once a year in July a folk festival takes place that features the largest sailing event in the world: Kiel Week. Approximately three million visitors then stream into the city, including many thousands of (sailing) ships and boat taking part in the competitions of the parades. When arriving in or departing from Kiel many visitors rely on a hired car. There are also a lot of sightseeing attractions in Kiel. Visits to the Opera House, Kiel Castle or the town hall should not be missing from a sightseeing tour by hired car of the city. Side trips to nearby cities such as Flensburg and
Luebeck or
Lüneburg are also worth a trip.
