Car hire Dresden information
Dresden is the capital city of the federal state of Saxony, located in Eastern Germany. The city is located only about 20 kilometres to the north of the border to the Czech Republic and just under 80 kilometres away from Poland. This also makes Dresden a major business and transport centre. Despite the air raids on Dresden in World War II in which the city was largely destroyed there are still many historical examples of architecture here. To a large extent this is due to the successful restoration of many municipal areas. The last of these and one of the most famous examples of architecture was the Dresden Frauenkirche whose reconstruction was completed in 2005. The city on the Elbe is one of the greenest big cities in Europe.
Even outside the city nature lovers will feel at home. By hired car, for example, both the Elbsandstein Mountains and Osterz mountain range are easy and quick to get to. However, culture lovers will also be well-served here. Internationally, Dresden is a high-ranking city of art and culture and a World Heritage Site. Many theatres, museums and other culture premises such as the famous Dresden Semper Opera are easy to visit by hired car. There is a lot to see and discover here. But a bit of time and a visit by hired car to one of the nearby cities such as Leipzig, Cottbus or Berlin is a worthwhile experience and is something that should not be missed.
