History of the Le Bourget Airport

Built in 1919, the Le Bourget was Paris’ only and most important airport at the time. It was only in 1932 that the Le Bourget airport had to share that status with Orly Airport. Being in this airport alone will be quite a special experience as it served as the landing place for Charles Lindbergh’s solo trans-atlantic crossing during the year 1927.

Adolf Hitler first landed in Paris for a tour in 1940 at Le Bourget Airport. This airport stopped receiving international traffic in 1977 and national traffic in 1980. Today, its sole purpose is for business jets.

The Le Bourget Airport also plays host to the Air and Space museum and also Paris Air Show, in odd-numbered years.
